Challenges have increased for American electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla in the last few months. In the fourth quarter of last year, China's BYD has overtaken Tesla to take first place in EV sales. BYD said it has delivered about 5,26,000 EVs between October-December. This is the first quarter in which this company has left Tesla behind.
However, Tesla is ahead in terms of total sales in the last year. It delivered around 18 lakh units last year and around 4,84,500 units in the fourth quarter.
Tesla 's performance in the fourth quarter has been good. Its sales have increased by about 20 percent compared to the same period last year. It also cut prices to increase sales.
Tesla's launch in India can be announced soon. The company is likely to give information about starting the business during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit to be held this month. Gujarat government has said that Sanand in the state can be selected for its factory. Recently, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that Tesla is in the final stages of talks with the state government regarding land for the factory. He said that the state government hopes that Tesla CEO, Elon Musk will choose Gujarat for his factory. He had told, "Elon Musk is also considering Gujarat as the first option. We will definitely welcome it and provide all necessary help."
It was told in some media reports that
the company 's factory can be set up in Sanand, Gujarat. The country's largest car makers Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors also have manufacturing plants in Sanand. However, some other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are also inviting the company to set up factories. Tesla's electric cars are not sold in the country. The main reason for this is high import duty. The company had requested the Central Government to give exemption in import duty. However, the government has denied this.
